ISIS: Black Orcs and Ring Wraiths of the Dark Lord

A. Black Orcs

Why do ISIS forces wear black masks?  Those masks remind me of the Black Orcs of Mordor, which were bred by the Dark Power in the North in mockery of Elves and Men.

The Orcs of ISIS were once men--you greeted them in the morning on your way to work, you sat with them on a train, you played football with them, and you worked beside them in factories.  They may be your students, co-teachers, or administrators in universities.  They may be politicians, scientists, businessmen, farmers, or government workers.  But you won't recognize them now.  They hid their faces with black masks, hoping that you won't recognize them and call them by name, because a name would set them apart and remind them that they still have the freedom to do good and avoid evil; a name would remind them that they, too, were born as infants and who grew in a human community, whose life becomes a story that becomes part of the whole human history; a name would remind them that once upon a time you were friends.  Indeed, Julius Caesar can fight death by conspirators and murderers, but one face stood out from the rest while swords stab him from all sides: the face of Brutus, his best friend.  How can you fight death, if the face of death is your friend?  "Et tu, Brute?--then fall, Caesar."

ISIS forces chopped off the heads of Christians, as Orcs chopped the heads of the men of Gondor.  In doing so, the ISIS forces are doing the Christians a corporal work of mercy: it is more merciful to slice a man in the throat than to shoot him in the chest, because beheading is a swifter death.  Even the Samurais of Medieval Japan know this.  That is why, when Samurais did something dishonorable to themselves, to their family, to their clan, or to their Lord, the Samurais commit suicide by killing themselves with their own swords, thrusting their swords in their guts in several swift strokes.  It's a long and painful death, as Katsumoto in the Last Samurai found out--long enough to gaze at the cherry blossoms and find perfection, not only in the flowers but also in death.  But unlike Samurais who kill themselves for the sake of honor, the ISIS forces kill helpless Christians for the greater glory of Allah and of Muhammad, His Prophet.

After the Orcs chopped off the heads of men, they catapulted the heads over the walls of Minas Tirith:
Then among the greater casts there fell another hail, less ruinous but more horrible.  All about the streets and lanes behind the gate it tumbled down, small round shot that did not burn.  But when men ran to learn what it might be, they cried aloud or wept.  For the enemy was flinging into the City all the heads of those who had fallen fighting at Osgiliath, or on the Rammas, or in the fields. They were grim to look on; for though some were crushed and shapeless, and some had been cruelly hewn, yet many had features that could be told, and it seemed that they had died in pain; and all were branded with the foul token of the Lidless Eye.  But marred and dishonoured as they were, it often chanced that thus a man would see again the face of someone that he had known, who had walked proudly once in arms, or tilled the fields, or ridden in upon a holiday from the green vales in the hills. (The Siege of Gondor, Lord of the Rings, pp. 823-824)
The modern day equivalent of this is to post the heads as trophies in You Tube.  ISIS is social media savvy.  They can beat the hell out of any Corporation in terms of marketing, for they get their message across through their viral videos.  In one video, one of the ISIS forces tutors a kneeling Christian man how to renounce Christianity by saying that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Prophet.  The kneeling man followed word for word.  As a reward to the new convert to the Muslim Faith, he was beheaded.  Meanwhile, the Men of the West watches helplessly behind their Facebook walls, for the Big Media focused their cameras on the Israel and Gaza, while Syria and Iraq burns in flames:
In vain men shook their fists at the pitiless foes that swarmed before the Gate.  Curses they heeded not, nor understood the tongues of western men, crying with harsh voices like beasts and carrion-birds.  But soon there were few left in Minas Tirith who had the heart to stand up and defy the hosts of Mordor.  For yet another weapon, swifter than hunger, the Lord of the Dark Tower had: dread and despair. (The Siege of Gondor, Lord of the Rings, p. 824)

B. Ring Wraiths

Why do ISIS forces chop off the heads of infidels?  Perhaps, deep in their heart, they hope to find the face they have lost and a head they can put on their shoulders, for they themselves are now headless: what was once their heads are now reduced to two eyes and one mouth floating in dark abyss, which reminds us of the Witch King of Angmar, the Fell Captain of the Hosts of Orcs who assaulted Minas Tirith, the First of the Nine Servant Ring-Wraiths of Sauron:
Upon it sat a shape, black-mantled, huge and threatening.  A crown he bore, but between rim and robe naught was there to see, save only deadly gleam of eyes: the Lord of the Nazgul.  To the air he had returned, summoning  his steed ere the darkness failed, and now he was come again, bringing ruin, turning hope to despair, and victory to death.  A great black mace he wielded.... "Hinder me? Thou fool.  No living man may hinder me!" (The Battle of Pelennor Fields, Lord of the Rings, pp. 840-841)
The Ring Wraiths used to be Mortal Men, until Sauron gave them Rings of Power and fell under his will.  As Gandalf said to Frodo:
The Three, fairest of all, the Elf-lords hid from him, and his hand never touched them or sullied them.  The Seven the Dwarf-kings possessed, but three he has recovered, and the others the dragon have consumed.  Nine he gave to Mortal Men, proud and great, and so ensnared them.  Long ago they fell under the dominion of the One, and they became Ringwraiths, shadows under his great Shadow, his most terrible servants.  Yet who knows?  As the Shadow grows once more, they too may walk again.  But come! We will not speak of such things even in the morning of the Shire. (The Shadow of the Past, Lord of the Rings, p. 51)
Just as the Ring Wraiths pursued the little folks, Frodo and the hobbits, the ISIS pursued the little people, ordinary Christian non-combatants, out of Iraq and neighboring countries.  At present the Christian hope lies now in France, who opened its doors to the refugees, in the same way as Elrond in Rivendell provided a haven for the fleeing hobbits.  But France itself is under siege, because there are now Muslim enclaves in Paris and other cities and they do not abide by French law.  France may be able to hold back Muslim invasion as it once did during the time of Charles Martel in the Battle of Tours in 732 AD, as Elrond was able to hold back the Nine Riders by torrents from flash flood, the ISIS forces, with their 2 billion dollars in loot, may soon have air power and missiles that can strike in the heartland of Paris, as Hamas had done to Israel, in the same way as the winged Nazgul of the air became a sign of doom and destruction to the men of Gondor:
The Nazgul came again, and as their Dark Lord now grew and put forth his strength, so their voices, which uttered only his will and his malice, were filled with evil and horror.  Ever they circled above the City, like vultures that expect their fill of doomed men's flesh.  Out of sight and shot they flew, and yet were ever present, and their deadly voices rent the air.  More unbearable they became, not less, at each new cry.  At length even the stout-hearted would fling themselves to the ground as the hidden menace passed over them, or they would stand, letting their weapons fall from nerveless hands while into their minds a blackness came, and they thought no more of war; but only of hiding and of crawling, and of death. (The Siege of Gondor, Lord of the Rings, p. 823)
C. Dark Lord

What Charles Martel fought in 732 AD is with the Umayyad Caliphate.  The Caliphate stretched from Pakistan, the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain--many of these were Christian lands.  And ISIS want to recover all this lost territory again today by clearing Iraq of Christians and establishing Babylon as the seat of this Caliphate, with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as Caliph. And from Babylon, ISIS shall wage war on Israel and the countries of the West.  The ISIS flag was already raised in London.  The French Police foiled plans to by Islamists to destroy the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and a Nuclear Power Plant.  Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines pledged its allegiance to ISIS.  Against this new Power, there is no hope.  As Saruman said to Gandalf:
A new Power is rising.  Against it the old allies and policies will not avail us at all.  There is no hope left in Elves or in dying Numenor.  This then is our choice before you, before us.  We may join with that Power.  It would be wise, Gandalf.  There is hope that way.  Its victory is at hand; and there will be rich reward for those that aided it.  As the Power grows, its proved friends will also grow; and the Wise, such as you and I, may with patience come at last to direct its courses, to control it.  We can bide our time, we can keep our thoughts in our hearts, deploring maybe evils done by the way, but approving the high and ultimate purpose: Knowledge, Rule, Order;  all the things that we have so far striven in vain to accomplish, hindered rather than helped by our weak or idle friends.  There need not be, there would not be, any real change in our designs, only in our means. (The Council of Elrond, Lord of the Rings, p. 259)
Submission.  Islam, requires submission of one's will to Allah, as a slave submits to his master.  That is why the only way for the whole world to have peace is when everyone submits to Muslim rule under Shariah law.  And in this sense, Islam is a Religion of Peace.    As Theoden said to Saruman:
Yes, we will have peace...we will have peace, when you and all your works have perished--and the works of your dark master to whom you would deliver us.  You are a liar, Saruman, and a corrupter of men's hearts.  You hold out your hand to me, and I perceive only a finger of the claw of Mordor.  Cruel and cold!  Even if your war on me was just--as it was not, for were you ten times as wise you would have no right to rule me and mine for your own profit as you desired--even so, what will you say of your torches in Westfold and the children that lie dead there?  And they hewed Hama's body before the gates of the Hornburg, after he was dead.  When you hang from a gibbet at your window for the sport of your own crows, I will have peace with you and Orthanc.  So much for the House of Eorl.  A lesser son of great sires am I, but I do not need to lick your fingers.  Turn elsewhither.  But I fear your voice has lost its charm. (The Voice of Saruman, Lord of the Rings, p. 580)
ISIS destroyed the Shrine of Jonah the Prophet and beheaded children, putting their heads on sticks, like that of the pig  in the Lord of the Flies.  The world turned to America for help, but what can you expect from Obama when he was raised in a Muslim country and sought to eradicate all vestiges of Christianity in the US?  Beheading children?  Do you think Obama would be moved?  He promoted abortion and voted four times against the Born Alive Infant  Protection Act.  An air strike here, an air strike there.  But Obama would never commit American ground forces on Iraq.

Let us ponder the words of Christ in the Gospel:
This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.n 30 Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here.o 32 At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here. (Lk 11:29-32)
