Cartoon: Philippine Supreme Court vs the RH Law hydra

Philippine Supreme Court vs the Reproductive Health Law hydra. The Supreme Court declared as unconstitutional the RH Law's penal provisions, no spousal or parental consent, abortifacients, and coercions.  But other key components of the RH Law remained constitutional: free condoms and pills, sex education for children, family planning training, and post-abortion care.

This is my first editorial cartoon in this blog.  The hydra concept came from one of my pro-life friends. He wrote in his FB status: "Hail, HYDRA!" which is a salute of the most extensive, powerful, and dangerous terrorist organization of the same name in the Marvel Universe. The salute is similar to the Nazi salute, "Heil Hitler!" because HYDRA is a branch-off of Hitler's Germany in the Marvel story.

In the cartoon, the Supreme Court battling the hydra with a sword is similar to the battle of Hercules against the nine-headed Lernean hydra, the monster from which the HYDRA organization is named.  Chopping off a head of the Lernean hydra yields two heads of the stump.  History can only say whether this analogy to the RH Law is valid or not. But I think there are now new heads growing out just after the Supreme Court announced its verdict: the push for abortion by the pro-RH groups and homosexual partnership bill sponsored by Lagman.

The RH Law was only declared not unconstitutional, with some articles removed.  But according to pro-life Filipinos, there are still some articles that must also be declared unconstitutional, such as sex education, family planning training, free condoms and pills, and post-abortion care.  The battle against the RH Law is not yet over.  The RH Law must be rendered incapacitated either by lack of funding or by health professionals refusing to implement its policies.  Like the One Ring in Lord of the Rings or Carthage in the time of the Roman Empire, the RH Law must be destroyed.

Art Notes:

I drew the picture on a white board, then I traced my drawing on a bond paper using a whiteboard pen.  I took a picture of the drawing on the bond paper and edited it in MS Paint.  The words are written in Comic Sans.  Ideally, the background should not be gray but white.  Also, the fonts should not have been too close to the margins.  I'll let this pass for now. I'll just do better next time.
